Drought
Art Direction, Graphic Design, and Packaging Design for Drought
What does a Post-Hardcore band have to do with branding? Quite a lot, actually. Drought is a passion project of mine. It's not only a musical outlet with friends, but also a outlet for another side of my visual creativity.
Our album art lives in the space between memory, dream, and shared experience. The goal is to create environments the viewer can step into and find themselves in. It's also an opportunity to create with friends. Trina Nguyen constructed the miniature seen throughout ‘Souvenir’ , while our friend Derek Yarra has lent his talents in photographing both records.
Where our album art skews towards being emotive and contemplative I enjoy going full-tilt with our merch designs. My designs pull from classic punk and hardcore motifs, then amplify, distort, and reimagine them into something that is wholly our own.
At the heart of hardcore and punk music is a DIY ethic, one that fosters community and invites collaboration. Without punk music, I'm not sure I would have convinced my mom to buy my first copy of Photoshop so I could start making show flyers.
